Paediatric Dosing FAQ
Safe Medicine Dosing for Children
Giving the correct dose of medicine to a child is critical. Under‑dosing may not relieve symptoms; over‑dosing can cause toxicity. This calculator uses the child's weight in kilograms – the most accurate method. Always use the measuring syringe or cup that comes with the medicine. Avoid kitchen spoons, which vary in size. If your child vomits within 15 minutes of a dose, you may repeat once. For persistent fever or pain, see a doctor.
When to Avoid Certain Medicines
Never give aspirin to children under 16 (risk of Reye's syndrome). Ibuprofen is not suitable for children under 3 months or under 5 kg. Paracetamol is generally safe but never exceed the maximum daily dose. Always check expiry dates and store medicines out of children's reach. For cough and cold medicines, consult a pharmacist – many are not recommended for young children.

Always Consult a Healthcare Professional
This calculator is a guide – not medical advice. Every child is different. If your child has underlying medical conditions (liver disease, kidney problems, allergies) or is taking other medications, talk to a doctor before giving any medicine. For emergency symptoms (difficulty breathing, seizures, severe drowsiness), go to the nearest hospital immediately.
